The Polish Fall Bazaar
Nov 7
If you’re new to Seattle, attending a festival at precious little Dom Polski, aka Polish Home Association, is mandatory to becoming a local. The Polish Fall Bazaar is the less-crowded version of Dom Polski’s Pierogi Fest in the summer. Much more chill, more diverse dishes, and the food is always the tiiiiiits: pierogis, pickle soup, white borscht, cabbage rolls, crêpes, baked goods like pączki and poppyseed cake, pyzy and other Polish dumplings of variety, and so on. Upstairs, there’s imported Polish stuff for sale: kielbasa, frozen dumplings, amber jewelry, and beeyoootiful hand-painted Bolesławiec pottery. They’ll be raffling off baskets of Polish treats as well. Admission is free, but bring lots of snack money. (Dom Polski, noon–5 pm, all ages) MEG VAN HUYGEN
Gobble Up
Nov 14
Just in time for Thanksgiving and the subsequent holidays, Urban Craft Uprising will host its annual specialty food show, promising over 100 local vendors hawking everything from bean-to-bar chocolates to baked goods to spirits to small-batch hot sauce (and yes, there are free samples). If you work up an appetite while shopping, a selection of food trucks will be on site to fuel your browsing journey with delicacies like dumplings, samosas, and rice paper rolls. This year will also feature free raffles throughout the day and cookbook signings with local authors every hour, including Seattle Eats + Drinks author Julien Perry, Rooted Kitchen author Ashley Rodriguez, Spinasse executive chef Stuart Lane (who recently released the cookbook Spinasse: An American Love Letter to Piemonte Cuisine), and Sheet Cakes author Zola Gregory. (Magnuson Park Hangar 30, 10 am–5 pm, all ages) JULIANNE BELL
Maria Geyman
Nov 16
Seattle may be a coffee city, but tea has its own particular pleasures to offer—a wide range of varieties to explore, the elegance and ritual of tea parties, food pairings, the versatility of myriad caffeinated and non-caffeinated options. Naturopathic doctor, Vogue contributor, and tea expert Maria Geyman, who founded the company Masha Tea, explores the lore of the world’s second most popular drink (after water) in With Tea. The book features dreamy watercolor illustrations and images from Vogue photographer Fujio Emura alongside tea history, culture, recipes, brewing techniques, and more. Geyman will drop by Book Larder for a conversation with local jeweler and FARIS owner Faris Du Graf, followed by a Q&A and book signing. (Book Larder, 6:30 pm) JULIANNE BELL
Becky Selengut
Nov 23
For many, the word “salad” conjures associations of limp, wilted iceberg and diet food, perhaps with some stock images of women laughing alone with their salad bowls thrown in. Local author Becky Selengut is here to change that with her playful new cookbook Lettuce Riot: High-Protein Salads That Pack a Punch, which eschews non-greens-based salads in favor of hearty, satisfying, colorful heaps of vegetables, like taco salads and the TikTok-popular “dense green salad.” Doodled illustrations in the margins and wordplay add some levity to your new salad repertoire. Selengut will discuss the book with local radio personality, host, and author Rachel Belle. (Book Larder, 6:30 pm) JULIANNE BELL
