A West Side man was charged with battering a firefighter who moments later bashed him with a blunt object Sunday morning during a confrontation in Greater Grand Crossing on the South Side.

Lamar Brown, 32, was charged with aggravated battery and aggravated assault of a firefighter, Chicago police said. He was also wanted on eight warrants.

Brown allegedly assaulted an on-duty firefighter around 11:45 a.m. Sunday in the 7300 block of South Maryland Avenue, police said.

Police used a taser after Brown ignored verbal commands, but efforts were "ineffective," police said in a statement.

As Brown continued toward the firefighter, he used a blunt object to strike Brown, who was then arrested, police said.

Brown, of Austin, was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday for a detention hearing.
